Some of you may already know about this trick. I always thought changing the bulbs in the tail light was a hassle. Today as I was installing a new tail light base I discovered that the two center reflector pieces snap out allowing easy access to replace the bulbs.
I should have known that those clever Germans had designed the base to be easy to service. Just pull the piece out (it slides out) and you can see what your doing and it gives plenty of room to seat or remove the outer bulbs properly.
To reinstall them, the reflectors slide in and snap into place. I have an owners manual and it does not mention this. I know I have broken bulbs before because it is so hard to access and I imagine I am not the only one! Try it -- you'll like it.
